The venue for the 3rd CSI Zurich at the open racetrack with prize money of 500,000 Sfr from 5 to 8 July, became the main test for the Showjumping World Championship in Stockholm- one month later.
Not surprising that fourty two riders from 11 nations were now participating in Zurich. CSI has grown to 29,000 spectators( including 10,000 on Sunday) a record setting was reported. Sponsors were now interested in long term plannings.
The old racetrack could not suffice any longer. Cyclists complained about their restrictions in training & racing, neighbours complained about the noise factor. The Theiler brothers were now faced with finding a new location. Not only was the future of CSI a concern, but also the main event, of the show, US Rodeo.
Animal Welfare organizations placed restrictions, Swiss Veterinary banned the entry of horses, cattle & riders from US. After numerous concessions, entry was allowed with the exception of 2 cows, which were replaced by calves from Hirzel that advanced to being absolute stars! More problems faced them with 3 US Pros that had broken arms to be replaced with additional riders from Germany, but the show continued….successfully.
