The European Classic with 250,000 Sfr prize money ended unexpectedly. German rider, Hauke Luther (27) won with his Hanoverian gelding, Gaylord. Austrian Hugo Simon was 2nd with Apricot and Geoff Billington from the UK with Rhapsody was 3rd. No Swiss Equestrians participated in the jumpoff. Willi Melliger was 6th with French mare Quinta & Thomas Fuchs 7th with Dylano. The public favourites John Whitaker & Milton won the Grand Prix for the first time with a prize payout of 100,000 Sfr. Second as in the previous year was Willi Melliger with Quinta.
