It was a manifold of events, this 14th CSI. For the second time the event took place February 1 to February 4. The new director of sports Martin Walther was very happy not only to welcome a total of 43'800 spectators but also the 14 best equestrians in the world rankings. The prize money was increased to a total of CHF 750'000 and the budget reached CHF 6 million - another new record.
Paul Weier and Aki Ylänne from Finland engaged the responsibility of the showjumping courses and now also the equestrians had a voice concerning the courses. "CSI Zurich had become a wellknown and important showjumping tournament and this reputation we want to continuously meet," reasoned CSI President Rolf Theiler in justifying the changes.
Three years ago camels from the Jordanian desert fascinated the spectators at Hallenstadion, in 1999 the spectators danced Brazilian samba rhythms and last year 40 reindeer and 10 huskies delighted the audience. This year the show had another unique composition, in that it was solely the horse at the heart of this show: Ukrainian Cossack riders opened with a very impressive acrobatics presentation on their horses. The audience was swept to another level by equestrian vaulting from Fehraltorf, Lütisburg and St. Gallen. An absolute highlight of this year's show was performance of Lorenzo. Living in the Camarque was jumping over fences - standing on the back of 2 horses. But, the cherry on top went to a jumping cow called Sybille who stole the hearts of all to became the absolute darling of the public ....
